The Portland Yoga Project's Foundational 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training is an immersive program that combines expert mentorship, hands-on teaching experience, and small-group learning to prepare aspiring yoga teachers.

Based in Portland, Maine, our program blends anatomy, philosophy, meditation, movement science, and practice teaching to help you build the skills and confidence to teach with authenticity.

At Portland Yoga Project (PYP), we believe teaching yoga is about more than learning sequences and anatomy. Our goal is to prepare the next generation of compassionate, thoughtful teachers who are committed to their own growth and the well-being of their students.

Whether your goal is to become a yoga teacher or to deepen your personal practice, you'll graduate with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to lead classes with clarity while developing your own unique voice.

Beyond learning how to teach yoga, this training fosters curiosity, expertise, and holistic understanding. Through personalized guidance and meaningful mentorship, you'll deepen your relationship with the practice, discover your strengths as a teacher, and explore how yoga can shape both your personal growth and your role within your community.

BY THE END OF THIS TRAINING YOU WILL:

  • Complete 216 contact hours with experienced faculty, plus more than 45 hours of guided independent study and self practice.

  • Confidently teach mixed-level yoga classes with a strong foundation in safety, creativity, accessibility, and effective sequencing

  • Learn to teach both Vinyasa Flow (linking breath and movement) and Hatha Yoga (a slower-paced practice with longer-held postures)

  • Develop a working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, movement science, alignment, and the subtle body, with the ability to apply those concepts in real-world teaching

  • Build a foundation in classical yoga philosophy and explore how ancient teachings can inform contemporary practice, community leadership, and social justice
